A Nutritional Approach to Managing the Debilitating Symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy is a common debilitating condition of the peripheral nerves which often causes pain, numbness, and tingling of the feet and legs. It is estimated that approximately 20 million people are currently suffering from peripheral neuropathy in the United States. It is believed that more than one half of these cases go undiagnosed.
Until recently, the mainstay of treatment for peripheral neuropathy was the use of drugs that sedate and suppress nervous system function. Today, there is a new paradigm. Instead of sedating their patients, many doctors have discovered that they can successfully manage their patient's symptoms nutritionally with NeuRemedy, "The Neuropathy Vitamin".
Thiamine deficiency is a well-known cause of peripheral neuropathy
Adequate blood levels of the micronutrient thiamine are essential for the proper functioning of the peripheral nervous system. Studies have shown that people who are thiamine deficient suffer from a bilateral, symmetrical, peripheral neuropathy of the feet and legs.
Reversing thiamine deficiency is often a highly successful method of managing the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy
Many people, including the elderly, diabetics, and patients on certain medications, are unable to maintain adequate thiamine levels through normal dietary means. These people are prone to develop peripheral neuropathy. For these people NeuRemedy, "The Neuropathy Vitamin", may manage their symptoms of peripheral neuropathy by delivering a highly bioactive form of thiamine to where it is needed, the nerve cells.! NeuRemedy works to improve the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy not by sedating the patient but by reversing a nutritional deficiency in their nerves.!
Many patients experience dramatic relief from their symptoms in as little as three weeks
The active ingredient in NeuRemedy has been proven in multiple doubleblind, placebo studies to be safe and effective in reducing or eliminating the symptoms associated with peripheral neuropathy. These studies have documented that patients often feel an improvement in symptoms in as little as three weeks. The active ingredient in NeuRemedy, benfotiamine, has been used successfully to nutritionally manage tens of thousands of people suffering from peripheral neuropathy in Europe and Asia for over fifty years.
NeuRemedy is an FDA classified medical food intended to be taken under the supervision of a physician
As a medical food, NeuRemedy is formulated specifically for the dietary management of peripheral neuropathy.! NeuRemedy has no known significant adverse effects and may be safely taken with medicines, medical foods, and vitamins.

Healing from Surgery
Recovering from surgery takes time and patience. During the days preceding and following surgery several things can be done to augment the healing process and keep you comfortable.
Bruising & Swelling:
Surgical procedures, no matter how delicately performed, will induce varying amounts of bruising and swelling. This is a normal part of foot surgery. Thankfully, most swelling and bruising will resolve after 2 weeks. Here are some helpful hints to improve and aid you in recovery.
Cold Compresses:
Cold compresses should be applied as much as possible for the first 5-7 days after surgery. This can be performed by applying a bag of frozen veggies or an ice pack (which can be purchased at our office) to the directed areas every 20 minutes, on and off for one hour, five times a day while awake. Usually the ice pack stays colder longer, is less messy and contours nicely to the directed area.
Homeopathic / Vitamin supplements:
A variety of remedies are available for sale in our office to help minimize bruising as well as speed up healing. Arnica is probably the most utilized agent but a complete list is provided to choose from. These can be started with in a few days before surgery and typically are continued for about one week afterwards.
- Arnica Montana - this homeopathic remedy is well known for its ability to minimize postoperative bruising and swelling. To use this product, place 3 or 4 pellets under your tongue the night before surgery. Continue taking the pellets 4 times daily for 5 days.
- Zymain - This is a three-part combination supplement consisting of systemic proteolytic enzymes, nutrients and minerals that regulate the inflammation response and support soft tissue repair. This product is designed to provide a nutritional foundation to the healing response. Zymain contains the following ingredients;
(a) Bromelain: Another homeopathic remedy useful to minimize bruising and swelling.
(b) Papain.
(c) Trypsin.
(d) Chymotrypsin.
(e) Bioflavonoid complex.
(f) Vitamin C - important part of natural wound healing process.
(g) Zinc.
(h) Manganese.
(i) Chondroitin.
(j) Shave grass (source of silica).
Zymain should be taken between meals, 2 tablets at a time, 2-3 times per day.
The recommended surgical vitamin pack is available for $40.00 at the office. These vitamins help speed up the healing phase and get you on your way to recovery. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office @ 856-384-1333.
